Morrisburg is an historic village in South Dundas nestled along the shores of the St. Lawrence River. It has over 800 meters of public shoreline and parkland constituting it as one of the most significant municipal waterfront green spaces in Eastern Ontario. Its waterfront and relationship with the St Lawrence River plays a significant role in Morrisburg’s history and has the potential to play a similar role in its future.
The Municipality of South Dundas, in which Morrisburg is located, retained MTBA and their team of specialists to prepare the preliminary design for Phase I of Morrisburg’s Waterfront Plan aiming to create a unique public space on the water, accessible to all and respectful of Morrisburg’s distinct natural and cultural heritage.
The plan includes a multi-use building; parking for a boat launch; traffic analysis and safety measures for this busy area; the consolidation/replacement of the ball diamonds with open space and event activity areas; the evaluation of proposed Finger Docks and their location; a connected riverfront promenade and other pedestrian and bicycle pathway systems; architectural and public space features; shoreline treatments; and a preliminary cost estimate to carry out the design.
